Ted Lassen and Henry Hennigs purchased the business
from the Jensen Family in 1949. At that time, it was located at 107 Montague Street, known as a beloved neighborhood deli, grocery, and produce market. In 1969, Alfred Calfa purchased the store and expanded its already successful reputation to that of an upscale delicatessen, featuring imported groceries and a vast selection of cheeses. He also added a modest catering operation to the repertoire, and in 1976 he moved the business to a larger location across the street to 114 Montague Street, where it has thrived since. In 1996, a fully equipped bakery was built on-site and six full-time bakers were brought on staff, bringing homemade desserts among the top of Lassen & Hennigs featured specialty products. Most recently, in 1999, they took the catering operation to a new level by dedicating the second floor of 114 Montague Street to the catering office and preparation headquarters. Since then, Lassen & Hennigs Catering has developed into a highly successful business of it’s own, specializing in both corporate and residential events, paying special attention to the specific needs of each and every client, never abandoning their family business philosophy of treating customers the right way - like family. Today, Lassen & Hennigs consists of three floors of bustling food production and customer service, and continues to maintain its reputation as a beloved neighborhood fixture.
